A while back I started learning animation, and after getting my hands on ToonBoom Animate 3, I had everything I needed to start working on something.

But of course I wanted to figure things out first. How far could I go? What level of animation can I render with this tech? And how much time and effort would it take to make something that actually looks decent?

Well, the answers to those questions are quite far, as high as I need, and a metric ton, respectively.

lol no vimeo embed

I went with full on traditional animation, because I've never been fond of tweening (though now I can see why it's used so much). I think it came out pretty nice.

Any and all comments and criticisms would be greatly appreciated. :)

Haha, yeah, everything I've heard about doing animation can be summed up with "it takes ages." Which, certainly makes sense, all things considered. But yes, looks quite nice and smooth.

All told it could've been done way sooner if I was more focused on it. I was pretty productive for a good week or two where I went from the sketches to the colored lineart, but then I ended up in the hospital for a bit and ran into some technical issues with the software, and eventually just found a workaround and blah blah blah.

But yeah, it's pretty crazy work, but I like it.

Very smooth and fluid! I like it!

Now I'm just wondering what made Dylan fly back like that.
