#21 - Dylan Speed Draw

What happens when the AC dies and I have to think about the heat my computer is making.

Another day I forgot to scan, whoops.

I think I gave up on the middle ship halfway through when it came to competent perspective. ALAS.

I did do a quick sketch yesterday intending to maybe make it look decent when I got back from work, but since our AC went out upstairs I don't really want to use the computer, so I'll post it when I have the chance and hopefully make another one for today.

So I've sorta been drawing again, getting out of my slump, but it hasn't really been anything designated as a DD, just a bunch of Andrew Loomis drawing exercises.

That counts as a DD. Post 'em!

Also, I drew this yesterday but couldn't post it so here we go!

#22 - Some Sort of Character Structure

Testing out character structure in Dylan's style.

#23 - Ferreting it up

Image

Testing out how to draw other animals in the same style as Dylan. After all, figuring out how to draw Dylan is only half the battle.

I feel as though the distinction must be made for MLP.

Zero time, so here's sketchie.

I think I need to mess around with the tablet more. Get back into the TRUE swing of things.

And take MK's advice and think about making some sort of thing I'll finish.

Maybe. I'll think about it.

@MK1: I like it! I think you're getting better with the anatomy.

@Falc: I like the face, I think you're starting to get a good idea of how faces work. The lampshade is nice too.

ON SECOND THOUGHT

#25 - Dylan Face Study

Image

This is far more rewarding and good for practice than that horrid crappy sketch. I'm testing out different methods on drawing Dylan's face. I think I've been too rigid in how I draw eyes so I'm going to vary the eye shapes more to hopefully get more variation on the expressions.

Beardy, Mustache, Pompadour and Unibrow

I like Pompadour, but I think Unibrow should be called Goatee and Beardy should be called just Beard or maybe Dwarf.

I haven't done a side-view head in a while. Seeing if I still got it.

Never had it.

@falcon
Those faces look good, you're definitely improving.

Though I can't help but notice the side-view face has a slight case of skewing. It tends to happen when you draw top down, and usually is skewed the opposite direction of which hand you use to draw with (right handed drawings will go left, left go right) and generally you are probably unable to see it until it is flipped. It causes things to look much more flat than they should. I don't know exactly why this happens, but I definitely know how to spot it.

Here is the head skewed to the right just slightly in mspaint (ignore the quality)

Image

It looks much more proportional than before, right?
This has been a problem that has plagued me forever, and to this day I still occasionally do it, so just be aware of it and it will happen less.

Post subject:  Re: DD: Daily Draw 3 - Warming Up to Drawing

@MK: Most likely going to happen all the time for me.

I have the worst case of slanted drawing. I can't draw straight, and that ends up skewing my stuff.

I dunno if the solution is to just work on the 3D more often or simply try to draw within boundaries? Maybe I just need to draw with a ruler at all times, I dunno.

I wanted to see if I could feasibly do some stuff on the computer that I did on paper.

In Photoshop.

I think I may just stick with SAI for that stuff.

Middle eye is the thing I drew. I just flipped it at the bottom to see if it works. Sort of does, sort of doesn't.
