They exist! Which ones do you play? Are they any good? Probably not, but we'll talk about them anyway! Guild Wars 2 comes out in few days! World of Warcraft is still technically relevant! Star Wars has accepted it's fate as free to play! Some people even still play Maple Story! Planetside 2 and Firefall are coming too, so it won't even just be a bunch of RPG's! IT'S EXCITING! Mecha told me to make this thread, so here it is.

I'll edit !#%$ like SERVERS and CHARACTERS and NONSENSE here as it's posted.

I have a SWTOR account that should still be active, but I can't access the comp that can run it...

I thought it was really fun, for sure.

Yeah SWTOR has a lot of flaws but I like my guild and I really enjoy shenanigans multiplayer-style. Perhaps if more you guys want to play together when free to play officially kicks off then I would happily be silly play the story in a group.

Speaking of playing in a group with multiplayer shenanigans, dat GW2. Every so often I open the launcher and it's got a lot more files to download.

Patch 5.0.4 will be up tomorrow in World of Warcraft, so for those who are still playing it, prepare yourself for figuring out how the heck to play your characters.

Also, make sure to visit Theramore as soon as possible if you haven't, as it's going to be quite "destroyed" in a few weeks time.

I was debating with myself whether or not to keep all your images and such, and then I just kind of forgot.
Now excuse me as I just copy-paste everything from you guys' posts.

Image That's better.

Image You didn't have to keep the images, but hey whatever gives you higher DPS.

Now, to get this thread a bit more life, what's everyone been doing lately? Or are a fair sum just waiting for MoP to arrive?

Well, in terms of MMOs, I've been playing Guild Wars 2 a fair bit, with my level 31 Guardian and level 17 Elementalist (I'll post them properly later). I am a bit eager for Star Wars to go free to play already, since I did enjoy it quite a bit, and have some character stories I'd like to finish.

I, probably won't bother with Mists of Pandaria, though, to be totally honest.

Image Truthfully, I'm not all compelled to get MoP myself, either. I'm not really sure... I think I'm all WoW'd out, really.

GW2 sure surprised me though, though we really need to get our game on together some time. I think that'd be much more fun with friends. Makes me grateful for the forced Lv. Down that it implements. Friend questing isn't much fun when your pals are over-leveled.

Yeah, it's just, my favorite part of MMOs is generally leveling/questing. Cataclysm made all that !#%$ rad because it changed everything. Mists of Pandaria adds... a new starting area, and five levels worth of zones at the end. That's just not worth the... however much amount of money the expansion itself will cost, plus the $15 for the month to play it.

But yeah, Guild Wars 2 together, that's certainly a thing we should do. Even if just about every time I've done it with Anhs and Yokuba, we end up just getting split up anyways due to how non-linear this is (and how bad at wandering off Anhs is), but what can you do.

Apparently, there was a bug last night in WoW that allowed DKs to cast their diseases on friendly targets.

That sounded like fun. If only I had a DK...

Well, I already started my farm, but I'm waiting until the Hunter's 90 before I involve myself in becoming Farmer Falc. As well as becoming the Pet Battle Master.

I'm seriously having a lot of fun with MoP. Pandaria's such a nice change from the doom, gloom, and Indiana Jones and the Raiders of Uldum from Cataclysm.

Also, the inn music is incredible.

Just because of a damn bug, you continue to have a nose for treasure. Kegoc, on the other hand, is only able to see treasure through his own eyes.

And I'm sure he has fading eyesight at this point.

That was a really good read. It kind of outlines the biggest problems with WoW and maybe a lot of MMOs these days, too. The server community seems to just want to jump in their dungeons and raids and never really want to communicate with the people. You're either elite or you're nothing.

It was depressing, but it's nice to see there are still people who genuinely want to help others.

Also, mentor raids would be pretty great as a general thing more often if people had the patience to do it. Don't think I see it a lot.

Image Most certainly. Like one of the female goblin /silly goes, "Everything these days is now, now, NOW, faster faster, FASTER, me, me, ME, murder, murder, MURDER!" and we get so caught up with having a smooth Heroic run to get some Valor (by the way, they aren't doing that whole turning Valor into Justice and Justice into Gold thing for 5.2 anymore) that we forget that gaming is supposed to be fun for everyone, but not everyone is as caught up as you are.

Sometimes you need to take a step back and say to yourself "You know, we were all new once. We didn't always understand the full mechanics. We didn't know we needed full fire resistance before even thinking about taking on Molten Core." New players come all the time, and there's even cases like me who took hiatus and are now back to experience new unfamiliar things.

By the way, there's a report of a pilot "mentor program" that launched between September-December, so hey, maybe something good will come from all this.

Image Y'know what's great about MMOs in general? Playing with others. I have much more fun with friends than soloing, that's for sure.

Thing is, I always seem to just miss out on the players still playing and feel a bit of sadness. However, I would very much like to fix this little "problem."

Thus, I would like to introduce:

The Availability Timer!!

(I suck at names. Shut up.)

Long story short, I suggest we post when we are most available to play...whatever MMOs we happen to be playing at the time and if we are open for Group Content.

For example...ME!

Due to my rather erratic work schedule, it is really hard to pin-point exact dates, but the middle of the week is usually safe bets. At the very least, usually, I find myself working very late at night, so I'm usually awake during those hours when I'm off. Specifically, you can find me logging in at around 9:00 PM EST and I usually can stay on as late as 12:00PM EST. So...9PM-12PM on most days of the week are my general times of play. Since I don't seem to be in any "major" guilds (only the Character Limits on Silver Hand...which is pretty barren, let's be honest here), I have no raid schedule to interfere and am thus open for any and all group content you may wish to suggest.

Currently, the only MMO I am enjoying at the moment is World of Warcraft, so don't bother looking for me in TOR (in fact, I doubt I'm going back to that one ever again) or GW2.

If you see me online and wanna group, feel free to ask. I'm more often than not more than happy to accept the invitation. Let's hope this works out...

My schedule is fairly consistent. Every day except Monday and Tuesday I'm home by at least 4:30 PM Pacific time. And then on those two days I'm general home by 9 PM. You probably won't find me online a whole lot on, Any MMO really, be it GW2 WoW ToR or Tera.

But send me a ring, I'd be cool with playing together.

It's remake is out now. Yesterday actually, under the title of A Realm Reborn.

The end-boss of an expansion being relegated to a grand trial is kind of great, actually, since they're usually mighty forces beyond reckoning like Kel'thuzad, Kil'Jaedan, the Lich King, and !#%$ Deathwing.

Garrosh being put in front of a trial for judgement makes me wonder what else is planned.

I'm half-expecting a Warcraft 3-esque scenario with Garrosh taking being Grommash Hellscream's son at full face value and pulling off a sacrifice for the greater good for all the lives on Azeroth.

But that would just be too predictable. Then again, Wrathion seems to imply a Burning Legion invasion is gonna happen again soon, so it's not like ideas haven't been recycled before.

I'm honestly looking forward to seeing where they take him with this. I also wanna see what this all means in the end for both factions.

The Horde will no doubt spend less time expanding their territory and more on a recovery effort. The rebellion no doubt cost several Horde lives and I don't think they have the manpower to really go forward and just need a little time to get themselves back together again, stronger than ever before.

As for the Alliance, Varian had the greatest opportunity anyone could have asked for, especially generals of the First and Second War. All the Horde Faction leaders in one place that he and his army could pick off, minus several casualties of course. Bring them down, and the entire Horde would crumble along with it, ending what he had once deemed just a bunch of monsters. Instead, he proposes a ceasefire for the time being since, well, not everyone on the Horde is as mad and power hungry as Garrosh displayed (though he did give a warning, letting them know that there is still tension between the two) and walks away. Certainly changed since the events of Wrath, where he was pretty pissed off at the (at the time believed) death of Bolvar.

I liked seeing that, but more so, I like the idea that a decision like this will no doubt create some controversy within the Alliance political system. Obviously Jaina, who has ironically turned into what Varian once was, will not be happy about this, maybe taking the Kirin Tor out of both sides, becoming a separate faction entirely and not getting involved with Azeroth's problems at all. I am thinking a few others might not like it all that much either, though the only other one that comes to mind is Tyrande, who's forests in Ashenvale are still getting ruined by Horde forces since the Cataclysm, but who can really say what the others think. Nevertheless, I expect a lot of talk amongst the characters about this and it may create some tension in the otherwise tight-knit Alliance, who were otherwise buddy buds with everyone except Gilneas due to them shutting themselves out after the Second War.

It's gonna be exciting from a lore standpoint. Now if only they'd quite down the dailies a bit...or make more events happen like those raids on the Timeless Isle. That's a good first step. More battles where even a little participation will get you something, please. I've said it before and I will continue saying it, what Guild Wars 2 did when it came to questing in an MMO environment was a glorious thing. Even FFXIV is doing that!

I feel like Blizzard could do a huge boon for themselves if they skip the daily hub mentality of early MoP and stick with the model they got right now with the Timeless Isle.

The isle doesn't feel like a chore to do. It feels genuinely like an area I just want to jump in and explore, nothing I feel obligated to do but am sometimes rewarded by doing so.

It doesn't feel like content that'll last me over a month, but that's okay.

If Blizzard does more areas like The Timeless Isle in the future, maybe with just a bit more to it then what the Isle has (I'm 99% certain I've seen all the random bosses after about four days) Then maybe I'll have more reason to play than just, Falcon.

Also !#%$ belts.

!#%$ them.

I got four bloody belts in a row.

Oh yeah, should probably mention--Tera's doing a thing where you can have a character levelled up to 58 for free. It ends at the end of today, though, so if you're interested, act quickly.

Image I love the animations, so I decided to record the different emotes.

Excuse the hiccups... I'm still learning how to properly use Fraps. For the most part, unless it's a really busy time in the game, the game does move at 60 FPS for me.

Also, /visor wasn't shown because I don't have a head piece that uses it. For the record, it slightly alters a head piece, such as, well, removing the visor on a helmet.

At Lv. 30, you gain a quest that let's your Chocobo help you out in battle. Dromaius and I have never been closer. I have him speccing into healing right now.

So I recently found out how to do this.

Image Also, I feel I should share a story, because you may be interested.

I was running a dungeon, but our healer didn't seem to have specced out the right attributes or something because he was having some difficulty. I don't think the tank had all that great VIT either, Most of us (at least myself) were doing this instance for the first time, while the Archer was getting kinda annoyed but did whatever she could to help us through.

We got KO'd a few times from mobs, but not from the first two bosses. Then the third boss came around. Once I got the mechanics down, we were ready.

We were beating her down as best as we could, staying out of the bad stuff, and taking care of adds. Still, either the tank couldn't keep aggro or our healer wasn't paying attention because slowly everyone was going down. It was basically just me and the boss left now (adds were gone by then). Popped all cooldowns, and then unleashed a 2 bar limit break.

Down it goes! Too bad she didn't drop decent loot, but man did that feel good to win with a Limit. Usually, melee DPS Limit isn't even all that useful (it deals a ton of damage to a single target) but in this case, it was the ideal solution.

Speaking of XIV, I'm getting back into that now. There was this period of time where Square did not want to take my money, so I could set up a subscription plan.

Speaking of that I had no idea a subscription was need when I actually bought the game. Not that it's a huge deal since I don't play WoW anymore (least not till LoD) but it was just, really weird to log in one day and get slapped by a fish screaming "YOUR ACCOUNT IS DEEEEEAD" That being said, I figured I'd just start fresh from level 1, not like I was all that far anyway. Pretty sure My character has the same name. Probably spelled it wrong but whatev.

Also in MMO's, recently did the Imperial Storyline for the Hutt Cartel mini-expansion with Elby and Anhs. We spelunked a Volcano, saved a planet and fought Dr. Wily, so it was all pretty good. We're also working on the Republic story but all our characters are goodie-goodies so it's not important.

Image Meanwhile, I finally hit 34 on Lancer/Dragoon, which means I finally got Blood for Blood, which means I now possess all three cross-class skills I need to be the best MNK ever! (Invigorate and Blood for Blood from Lancer, Fracture from Marauder)

Also, redesigned my character a bit since 30-day sub gives you the re-design potion thingy. Dyed the hair a bit darker, removed some face paint, gained a fluffier tail, etc.

Some notes of interest:

-Flexible raiding for all. The raid scales up and down depending on how many people are in your group, which counts for Normal and Heroic raids. So you can have a group of 15 in a raid instead of being delegated to 10 or 25. Also a new "Mythic" raid type that's delegated to 20, for some reason.
-Own your own town. A subset of the farming questline, but with a more TOR feel. Send people off to quest while you're offline and level up the bases for character bonuses. Put in stuff like mines, an enchanting hut, and other little buildings. And it would make sense that the one time I think about quitting, they come out with the ability to own your own inn.
-Inventory upgraded fairly big. Stack sizes increased, quest items don't go into the bag, heirlooms and toys are account-bound and can be accessed by any character, and autosort.
-Free jump to 90 for one character. Could be nice for those returning. Wonder if it'd let people skip Pandaria purchasing before they make it part of the whole package like Cataclysm.
-New PVP zone sounds like they're trying to take the best elements of Wintergrasp, old AV, and Tol Barad and try to make something great. It could be fun.
-Hit and Expertise are gone. They're adding things like Movement Speed and Cleave, which lets you hit or heal additional people.

Also, new models for Dwarf, Orc, and Gnome.

Image Patch 2.1 is out now and it is quite glorious this far, even without having done everything.

I main MNK so those buffs are immense to my DPS. I did a dungeon in record time because of how great my new attack power is.

Speaking of dungeons, they may very well be the better way to get stuff done, especially Duty Roulette. WoW players will recognize this as the Random Dungeon for Dungeon Finder, complete with extra rewards if you play Healer/Tank and they need that role to be filled. I went MNK but even then it went faster than usual to get in queue, and this isn't even at peak hours! I was rewarded with some massive EXP! Before I started I was barely into 48 but now I am halfway to 49.

Dailies are in but it doesn't look like it'll take too long to max the rep out. I need 150 to get above Neutral and with 5 per quests and 3 quests per day for each tribe, that should only take about 10 days for the next ranks.

Housing is in but we haven't gotten the rank yet to build on a lot, but we were the highest possible until the patch so I expect a house soon. Will post pics!

Something I noticed that no other MMO does: Line of sight. Had this been World of Warcraft, I would've aggro'd immediately, but because they aren't looking at me, I can sneak in and take the stuff they stole without even having to go into some sort of stealth mode. It amused me.

Image

Whoa, ain't this a rare sight! A tank and healer are looking for group, but there are no DPS? What alternate universe did I go into?!

And lastly, something I've been waiting to do for months...

Play this for the full effect.

In truth, I would've liked to get two more people...

My Free Company invited me to help them out with the fight against Good King Moggle Mog XII. It was a silly thing but it was nice to feel appreciated.

Image Working towards getting full Darklight Armor. Hopefully will have the full set by the end of the month (only missing the shirt, the pants, and the boots). Currently sitting pretty at iLvl 63 so I am actually at a decent enough gear to take on Ultima Hard Mode if I wanted to.

Image This new year started off quite well in my MMO playing. Managed to get two Ultima HM drops that are perfect for MNK, and I've only done the fight three times total!

I did it. I saved the world.

Now I'm a special snowflake green fire Warlock instead of dark Mage red fire Warlock.

Also, since I had these two images a while back, have an image of my Priest and Mage's transmog.

Ifrit dropped his claws for me to use as a weapon. Truly amazing.

Image So I had my FC help me and a few others gain their Relic Weapon, mine of which is here. Along the way, you have to fight the Hard Mode version of the three primals of the game, and they have a chance of dropping a fairly decent weapon, Ifrit's being the weakest and Titan's being the best, even being on the same iLvl as the Relic Weapon.

Well, long story short, the MNK weapon dropped on the Garuda and Titan runs and I got them both times.

I'm not sure how I got so lucky. First, I got two Ultima HM drops that were meant for my main, and now this.

Image Ran my first Labyrinth of the Ancients the other day, which is a Raid based off of Final Fantasy III that requires 24 people to participate...or rather 3 groups of 8. While you can communicate with the others, you're mostly just with your own predetermined group, or "alliance" as they are referred to. Still, it felt nice actually being a part of a big raid for once in an MMO.

*insert elitist "aw look, he thinks he's doing real raiding, that's so cute" comments here*

Lemme show you what was experienced:

Spoiler: click to show
Image
Things can get hectic pretty quickly. Unlike other raids I've seen in other games, trash mobs are actually not a thing here. Just mini-bosses that spawn adds.

Image
2nd to last boss: King Behemoth! Yep, he was upgraded from really tough enemy to actual boss!

Image
Final Boss has some crazy ass AOE spells. And this wasn't even the worst! It can get so bad, the amount of available space is smaller than a closet! I'll see if I can get a better pic next time, because CT runs are actually pretty fun and a great way to get some tomes and iLvl 80 gear (though you're only allowed one piece a week).

One thing that amuses me about this fight is that the battle is against Acheron, which is an enemy found in Eureka, but the Labyrinth of the Ancients was clearly based off of the Ancients' Maze (hence the name) which came just before the actual Crystal Tower. Acheron actually took the place of Titan, who shared sprites with and was the boss of the Ancient's Maze. Obviously, since there already is a Titan in FFXIV (the primal summoned by the kobolds) they couldn't just say there were too different Titans and made it Acheron instead.

As an aside, there's supposed to be more to the Crystal Tower in future patches, including a boss battle against Xande (renamed Xandes) and the Cloud of Darkness. Looking forward to it! (Mostly because I anticipate an awesome remix of this piece like how they remixed The Alter Cave and Battle 2.)

And just for good measure, a picture of my character doing some alchemy and getting really into it.

Image Y'know, I kept forgetting to actually test LFR out...

I guess I still felt off-put by the fact that, well, one small dungeon in Cata really ruined the whole MMO experience for me. I hate just grouping with random blokes who tend to be !#%$ because of the G.I.F.T. It didn't always happen, mind you, but having been kicked out of the dungeon when I was trying to learn it for the first time after taking a short break really broke my spirit. (It's not like they didn't know either as I specifically told them I was playing this for the first time in almost a year and don't know the dungeon very well)

It took me forever to get the nerve to run a dungeon again. In fact, it took Falcon and Yokuba to help me do that with Mists (which seemed much easier by design, actually, with less reason to, say, "sheep" a target), and even then I felt nervous as I played the role of Tank, which is usually reserved to those who tend to be "leaders."

I actually still feel that ping even as I play FFXIV. My first HM primal runs were with my FC as was my first Labyrinth of the Ancients run because I didn't want to go in without somebody I knew. I know, they're people on the Internet and I should never let their thoughts affect me, but developing a thick skin can be a bit tough. I feel, though, that I have been getting bolder these days. There was still some toxicity during my last CT run (in which I went without any FCs that time 'cause I really want some iLvl 80 loot) as well as the end of HM Hakkue Manor, but I was able to endure it better. It's possible it's only because I've been playing the role of DPS as of late, which I feel gets the less pressure of any other role in MMOs (whether the tank or healer gets it worse depends on who you ask, but personally, especially during my TOR runs, I felt healing was far more relaxing an experience). It might also be because, for the first time ever, I'm actually in end-game gear doing end-game content so when something new comes out, I can be amongst the first to experience it and thus, not feel awkward being new because everyone would be new.

But now that just leads me to wonder: Should I have not dove head first into the Tank role without first experiencing the game through the eyes of something that didn't require so much pressure? Maybe then I wouldn't have felt so down during that terrible Vortex Pinnacle run... Even when I do use the Dungeon Finder when I play WoW, I still avoid Cata like the plague that corrupted much of Lordaeron...

I haven't run a dungeon as DPS since... gosh, when I was leveling my hunter years ago. Since I started WoW again in December, I've queued for everything as a protection warrior, which is a !#%$' blast. I've only really had issues twice:

The first time I queued for a Cataclysm dungeon, we were boned from the get-go. I think we ALL assumed it was simple !#%$ like earlier, and a few of us underestimated the gear curve *cough*82 Goblin Priest in heirlooms that only go up to 80 wondering why I was popping CDs on trash*cough*. Nonono in Cata content, dungeons are HARD. I wiped Throne of the Tides 3 times: on the first boss, as we didn't know the fight, on the second boss, because we didn't know the fight, and on the trash leading to the first boss, because DPS didn't know that the casters healed. The group disbanded and it was awful.

The first time I queued for LFR, I was just at the iLVL requirements for LFR ToT... except I was decked out in everything from 522 wrists and gloves to 399 necklaces. I had !#%$ for threat generation, so the other tank took a lot more damage than I did, and we wiped, repeatedly, on the HALLWAY after the first boss because no one, myself included, knew what the !#%$ was going on. I abandoned the group because I was clearly dragging it down, although I hope they didn't find a tank after that.

The LFR for SOO Vale of Eternal Sorrows was great. The other tank was also pretty new, so we learned the fight mechanics together before the fight, bumbled around trying our best, while our overgeared healers topped us off. There were a couple toxic players, but they left because the rest of the group was pretty nice. We nearly wiped on Norushen, though. Which kinda sucked.

Image Isn't it wonderful?

Image It's a reward for getting 50 commendations, which are little tokens you can get by other random players when you run an instance with them. Basically, an incentive to be helpful/not be a !#%$. Playing DPS made it less likely but not impossible to get those comms. (Other rewards include a title, a hat, and a mount)

It's officially called "Princely Hatchling" but the community (and myself) much prefer the more formal and fitting name of "Chocopope."

Pfff...that hallway is murder even for groups that are consistently killing heroic ToT. Trust me.

Loooot of messups occur there. And that's with things that knock you off the bridge.

Also, I just realized that, sans the break coming in a few days, i haven't gotten your battletag yet. Got one?
